Alice Brown Oliver, a cherished resident of Jackson, departed this life peacefully on March 8, 2026, at the age of 87. Born on August 28, 1938, Alice was a loving mother, grandmother, and devoted member of her community, whose life embodied the spirit of grace, kindness, and creativity.
Raised in the Antioch community, Alice graduated Jackson High School as part of the Class of 1956 prior to attending Huffstetler Business College in Mobile. Alice's professional journey as an Executive Secretary at Durr Drug Company and later Allied Paper Company showcased her dedication and competence, but it was her role within her family and church that defined her life. A faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Jackson, she served with joy in the choir, was a member of the WMU, and imparted wisdom as a teacher of the Adult V Sunday School Class for nearly 40 years. Her laughter and nurturing spirit enriched the lives of countless individuals, and her melodic contributions to the church will echo in the hearts of all who had the pleasure of hearing her sing.
Beyond her commitments to her family and faith, Alice found solace and joy in china painting, where she forged friendships and crafted beautiful pieces that mirrored her vibrant spirit. Her home was a sanctuary filled with the love she so freely gave to her children and her grandchildren. Alice's warmth and encouragement lifted up those around her, always reminding them of their potential and instilling in them a sense of belonging.
Alice's legacy will live on through her daughters, Stephanie Oliver Hutchinson and Lori Alice Oliver; beloved grandchildren, Samuel Oliver Hutchinson, Addyson Grace Oliver, Dr. AshLee Oliver Frey, and Joanna Oliver Walls; precious great grandchildren, EllaDove Walls, Levi Walls, and Bo Walls; sisters, Georgia Brown McKay and Eloise Brown Stokes; and brother, Dr. Jerry E. Brown (Libby); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.
She was greeted in heaven by her loving husband, Ed Lee Oliver, Sr.; son, Ed Lee Oliver, Jr.; parents, John Coley and Alliene E. Brown; as well as five of brothers and five of her sisters: brothers Elmore Brown, Tollie Brown, Roy Brown, Henry Brown and the Rev. Robert L. Brown, and sisters Pauline Brown Claro, Dot Brown Downey. Lucille Brown Boyd, Christine Brown Daugherty and Marie Brown Zentz.
As we celebrate the life of Alice, we invite friends and family to gather in remembrance and gratitude for the time spent with this remarkable woman. A visitation will be held at the First Baptist Church of Jackson on March 13, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, followed by a funeral service officiated by Rev. Benny Harrison at 10:00 AM, where we will honor her legacy and the love she shared. Alice will be laid to rest that same day in Antioch Baptist Cemetery, in a final act of love and remembrance.
Active pallbearers will be her nephews and great nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be the nursing staff of Jackson Home Health, the nursing staff of Jackson Medical Center, the members of Alice's Adult V Sunday School Class, and her living nephews and great nephews.
In this time of sorrow, let us remember the beauty that Alice brought to our lives and celebrate the memories that will forever remain in our hearts. She lives on in the stories, laughter, and love of her family and friends. May her spirit continue to inspire us to create, to love, and to lift one another up, just as she did throughout her remarkable journey.
