Anne May Jones (Gigi to her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many friends) died on Wednesday morning, August 12, 2026, entering the eternal gates of Heaven. Anne was born on September 19,1931 to her parents Homer and Lucille Chamberlain May.  

Anne was a member of First Baptist Church of Jackson where she was active in teaching Sunday School, Training Union, Vacation Bible School and served in many other positions. Anne was very active as a member of the Jackson Woman's Club for many years serving as President and in various other roles. In addition, Anne was a member of several bridge clubs over the years, and she cherished the many friends that she made playing bridge in Clarke County.  

She is survived by her son, Barry and daughter-in-law Melissa; grandchildren Elizabeth Slone (Bo), Emily Buckner (Heath) and Spencer Jones (Stephanie); great-grandchildren Isom Slone, Isla Slone, Levi Buckner, Eleanor (Elle) Buckner, Dorothy (Dodie) Buckner, Jett Jones and Ivy Jones; sister Jane Chastain and sisters-in-law Imogene Coleman and Julia Jones and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and dear friends. 

Anne is preceded in death by her husband Billy, to whom she was married 61 years until Billy's passing on June 3, 2010, her parents, sister Bettie Howell and other in-laws that were part of the May and Jones families.  

As a family, we are truly blessed to have had Gigi for almost 95 years (her birthday would have been on September 19, 2026, which is the same birthday as her oldest granddaughter, Elizabeth). She was very happy that she was able to live all these years in the house she and Billy built in 1961. Even though she would visit Barry and Melissa for various months during each year, she always wanted to come back to her home in Jackson.  

The family will be forever grateful to her dear and special friend, Leroy Mitchell, who cared for Anne after the death of her husband Billy. His deeds of kindness to Anne will never be forgotten. We also thank Leroy's family for sharing him with us.  

The family finds comfort and peace in the passage of scripture found in 2 Corinthians 5:8 which reads, "to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord".  A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Jackson with a visitation held an hour prior. Interment will immediately follow the funeral service at Pine Crest Cemetery in Jackson. Bro. Brian Jemison will be officiating under the direction of Lathan Funeral Home. 

Pallbearers will be Bo Slone, Heath Buckner, Levi Buckner, Spencer Jones, Leroy Mitchell, and Kenny Smith. Honorary pallbearers are Palmer Whiting and John Dowling.
