Billy Reeves

December 4, 1939 — October 13, 2025

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Billy Cooper Reeves, a beloved husband, father, and esteemed member of the McVay and Jackson communities, who departed this life on October 13, 2025, at the age of 85. Born on December 4, 1939, Billy lived a life steeped in dedication, love, and an unwavering spirit.

Billy was a man of many hats and talents. He proudly served as the Chief of the Jackson Rescue Squad for many years, and he was the last charter member of this esteemed organization. His commitment to serving others extended to his involvement with the Alabama Association of Rescue Squads, where he contributed valuable leadership as a member of the executive board. A faithful member of the Pilgrim's Rest Primitive Baptist Church in McVay, Billy's strong faith guided him throughout his life.

In addition to his service in public safety, Billy was a fixture in the local agricultural community. He served on the McVay Water Board for an impressive 48 years and was an active member of the Cattleman's Association, where he played a pivotal role in advocating for farmers' rights and interests. He spent 9 years to Ciba Geigy and later dedicated 22 years working with Brown & Root, where he earned respect for his skill and work ethic.

Billy's life was enriched by his passions. In his younger years, he found joy in fishing and hunting, often sharing these adventures with family and friends. An avid Alabama football fan, he delighted in cheering for his team, his spirited enthusiasm infectious to those around him. Summers were marked by cherished memories spent at the beach in Gulf Shores, where he would take his camper, creating lasting moments with his family.

Billy's greatest joy came from spending time with his beloved wife, Daisy, his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His laughter, warmth, and jolly demeanor brightened the lives of everyone he encountered. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness and generosity that will continue to inspire those who knew him.

Billy is predeceased by his parents, DeWitt and Lucy Lee Reeves; siblings, Alfred Reeves, Bertie Mae Moseley, Jimmy E. Reeves, and Charlotte Odom; and daughter, Cindy Alisia Reeves.

Billy is survived by his wife of 67 years, Daisey Jackson Reeves; children Brian K. (Dixie) Reeves and Ramona Reeves McIlwain; brother, Bobby (Jean) Reeves; grandchildren, Kristian (Allie) Reeves, Lincoln (Savannah) Reeves, Tannon Reeves, Catherine McIlwain (Phillip Reichert), Carrie Quick (Trey McKinley); great grandchildren, Christopher Davis, Harper Reeves, Karsyn Quick, Payton Reichert, Addison Reichert, Marley Reeves, Bayley Reichert; a loving niece thought of as a daughter Teresa Gilpin; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.

In honor of Billy's remarkable life, a visitation will be held on October 16, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and again on October 17, 2025, from 1:30 PM until the funeral service at 2:00 PM at Lathan Funeral Home in Jackson with Bro. Stephen Ross and Bro. Fred Odom officiating. Following the service, he will be laid to rest at Peniel Cemetery, honoring a well-lived life and a heart well-loved.

Pallbearers will be Derrick Reeves, Randall Reeves, Craig Moseley, Kenny Ray Reeves, Kristian Reeves, Lincoln Reeves, Tannon Reeves, Christopher Davis, Phillip Reichert, and Trey McKinley.

Honorary pallbearers are members of the Jackson Rescue Squad and the Board of Directors of the former McVay water System.

As we come together to celebrate Billy's life, let us take a moment to cherish the memories we shared and honor the indelible mark he left on our hearts and community. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the lives he touched.
