Burl Quimby

January 13, 1927 — November 14, 2021

Burl Vickrey Quimby, 94, of Chatom, Al, passed away on Sunday, November 14, 2021, at his home. He was born January 13, 1927, to the late Alfred and Nettie Vickrey Quimby of McCollough, AL. He was a WWII veteran of the US Army. After serving in the Army, he attended Troy University for a short time where he met his wife of 70 years, Reba Wilene Payne Quimby. He graduated from Auburn University in 1950 with a degree in Vocational Agriculture. He returned to Auburn to earn his master's degree in 1965.
He taught Ag at Washington County High school for 25 years and then served six years as the first Director of Washington County Vocational Center. He influenced many people in his role as teacher and mentor. He was a long-time member of Chatom Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years. He enjoyed gardening and was an avid quail hunter. He cherished his four granddaughters and three great-granddaughters.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Wilene Payne Quimby; parents, Alfred, and Nettie Quimby; brothers, Raymond Quimby and Buford Quimby.
He is survived by his children, Larry Burl Quimby (Margaret), Keith Payne Quimby (Kim), Susan Quimby Ukleja (Robert); grandchildren, Laura Hanks (Nathan), Alicia Williams (Shaun), Randi Quimby (Phillip Morris), Maggie Blevins (Russell); great-granddaughters, Elizabeth Williams, Sadie Blevins, Corie Cate Blevins; honorary grandchildren, Ashli Page and Lindsey Kirkland; numerous nieces and nephews and caregivers Dianna Davis, Mary Jackson, Sandris Jackson, Raven Knight and Evelyn McIlwain.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at Chatom Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Kirkland officiating. Visitation will begin oner hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at Chatom Town Cemetery with Lathan Funeral Home directing.
Pallbearers will be Jimbo Payne, Paul Payne, Carl Craig, Jon Odom, Eric Odom and Aaron Kirkland.
