David Cherry, 85, beloved Father, Son, and Grandfather, was called to his eternal resting place on October 7, 2025, in Jacksonville, Florida. He entered this world on March 14, 1940, in Jacksonville, FL, born to George and Dora Cherry. After high school David enlisted in the Army, he attended cook & bakers school at Fort Lee , VA. Throughout his military career which began in 1956 and retired in 1977, he had some notable accomplishments he was very proud of; he was signed to Army Security Agency with Top Secret Clearance and sent to Japan, 1968 in Vietnam he ran a 24 hour dining hall and fed all pilots and crew members, he did training on Huey Helicopters and made over 15 missions into enemy territory which some of them were secret missions. During those missions, David was awarded 3 Bronze Stars, Crewman's Wings, Air Medal, Meritorious Service and 5 Commendations. After retirement he moved to Montgomery where he and Linda were members of The Order of the Eastern Star and himself became a Master Mason in 1972. He owned 3 different businesses and managed a restaurant, he also belonged to a bowling league which he loved to do with many of his friends.
Preceded in death by his wife Linda Faye Cherry, and his first wife, Irene Klutschkowski Cherry.
He is survived by his daughter Sherrie (Jeff) Nichols; sons David Cherry Jr., Karl (Candy) Cherry, and Michael Cherry; grandchildren; David Cherry III, Daniel Cherry, Cortney Cherry, Kayleigh Cherry, Jonathan Cherry, Nancy Cherry., Haley Nichols, Fields Nichols, and Clayton Nichols.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at Peniel Baptist Church Cemetery in Jackson, Alabama where he will be laid to rest next to his wife Linda Faye Cherry. A visitation for family and friends will be held at Lathan Funeral Home starting at 9 a.m.
