Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of David Earl Walker, a beloved father and cherished member of the community, who departed this life on July 2, 2026, at the age of 85. David was born on March 22, 1941, in Alabama and spent his life in the state he loved, residing in Grove Hill.

David was employed as a mechanic for the Clarke County Board of Education (CCBOE), where he was known for his exceptional skills and dedication. He was a man of simple pleasures and enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and sharing laughs while playing dominoes. A lifelong member of the Mt. Gilead Baptist Church, David found comfort and joy in gospel music and the fellowship of his brothers and sisters in Christ. He delighted in the simple pleasures of life, notably his ever-present cup of sweet tea, which was a constant companion.

Family was everything to David. Spending time with his children, grandchildren, and the rest of his family brought him immense joy, and his love for them was evident in all he did. David is survived by his children, Robert Allen Walker (Nikki), David Emmitt Walker, and Kristie Walker Presnall (Larry); grandchildren, Joshua David Walker, Evan Garrett Walker, Kylee Faith Walker, Ashley Tracy, Taylor Cunningham, Haley Cunningham, Luke Cunningham, Katherine Diane Walker, Brittany Harmon, Richard Earl Walker, Keith Welch, Allan Joshua Presnall, Zacchaeus Presnall (Alexandra); great grandchildren, Jameson Walker, Jordyn Walker, Conner Laxton, Keira Lester, Branston Walker, Emily Stapleton, Jude Walker, Conner Walker, Nova Presnall, Jahmyiah Young (J Young), Shanautica Welch, Tahkyia Welch, Harmony Gardener (Dee Gardener); great-great grandchildren, Jacee Young, Jveon Young, and Jace Young; and a dog he loved with all his heart, Hershey.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years, Betty Sue Finney Walker; father, RA Walker; mother, Bessie Q Dorman Walker; brothers, Coma Walker and Coble Walker; sisters, Doris Walker Bayles, Joyce Walker, and Barbara Walker Dalhaus; and great-great grandchildren, Jewel Young and Jrue Young.

David's life will be commemorated with services at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church, 6701 Walker Springs Road, Jackson on July 8, 2026. There will be a visitation beginning at 10:00 am with the funeral service beginning at 11:00 am with Bro. William Allison and Bro. Eugene Ray officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Gilead Cemetery. Friends, family, and all whose lives were touched by David are invited to join us in celebrating his life and the legacy of love and kindness he leaves behind.

Active pallbearers will be Ian Finney, Thomas Stitcher, Matt Finney, John Finney, Dale Harris, Caleb Coffey, Mitch Finney, and Cecil Singleton.

Honorary pallbearers will be Fred Keith, Sr., Luke Cunningham, Shields Finney, Jr., Terry Nelson, Jamie Patrick, Josh Patrick, Michael Finney, Colby Finney, James Bayles, and Marshall Walker.

David Earl Walker will be deeply missed, but his spirit will remain alive in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
