David Wilhelm

February 2, 1947 — August 25, 2023

David Loren Wilhelm, 76, passed away in the early evening of Friday, August 25, 2023. David was born on February 2, 1947, in Harrison, Arkansas, to Paul Eugene and Mattie Helen Brown Wilhelm. He was an enthusiastic, eclectic, and lifelong collector of antiques (and other curiosities), including chisels, buttons, Matchbox cars, and Native American arrowheads. Having grown up in the Ozarks, David had a deep fondness for mountains, which fueled his passion for visiting Arkansas, various parts of the Appalachian Mountain Range, and the Alps in Europe (especially Switzerland) whenever his health would permit. He had a quick wit and a deep intellect, earning his Masters in Education and working at Wilson Hall Middle School for many years. He loved the sciences, particularly physics and the work of Albert Einstein, and the discoveries that caused humanity to open their minds and reevaluate the way we see the universe. David actionably cared for his family, friends, and the Jackson community. In the end, deep love for his wife, gaining a daughter, pride for his son's achievements and, especially, moving to Virginia to be with his beloved grandson were all he talked about.

David is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Nancye Nash Wilhelm; son, Jason E. Wilhelm; daughter-in-law, Sandhya "Sandy" Mishra Wilhelm; grandson, Aanand Mishra Wilhelm; sisters-in-law, Elaine Wilhelm and Jeanette Nash; brothers-in-law, Howard Wayne Nash & family and Gerald Craft; nieces, Julie Wilhelm Shaffer (husband, Brett) and Michelle Craft-Niedert (husband, E. Ray Niedert) & family; nephews, John Wilhelm and G. W. "Jerry" Craft II (wife, Jennifer "Jenny" Craft"); uncle, Edward "Eddie" Brown; and the entire Brown family.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dr. Nelson Wilhelm; brother-in-law, Richard Nash; and sisters-in-law, Carolyn Nash Craft and Sheila Nash.
