Elaine Windham

March 4, 1950 — August 12, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Elaine B. Windham, age 75, who departed this life peacefully on August 12, 2025, in Gainestown, Alabama. Born on March 4, 1950, in Selma, Alabama, Elaine was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who brightened the lives of everyone she met.

Elaine was a proud member of the Jones Chapel Methodist Protestant Church and had a straightforward way of communicating that endeared her to many. You always knew where you stood with Elaine, and she never met a stranger-she loved to talk and connect with people from all walks of life. Her warm spirit and kind heart will be missed by all fortunate enough to have known her.

Elaine took pride in her work and her ability to connect with people which she applied to her many careers including retail sales, nursing, and the insurance industry. She was a lifelong learner and an avid reader, often seen with a book or her Kindle in hand, delving into any topic that piqued her interest. However, her true joy came from her family. Elaine's grandchildren were her world, and she cherished every moment spent with them, instilling love and wisdom in each of their lives.

Elaine is survived by her loving husband, Lawrence E. "Todie" Windham; her two sons, Todd Johnson (Vicky) and Chad Ott (Brandi); her stepchildren, Larry Windham (Dana) and Amy Roberts (Cecil); her cherished grandson, Cody Johnson; her eight beloved step grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Mary Lou Brooks; and her lifelong friend, Judy Downey. Her legacy of love, laughter, and connection will forever remain in the hearts of those she leaves behind.

Elaine was preceded in death by her brother, Max Brooks.

A funeral service to celebrate Elaine's remarkable life will be held on August 14, 2025, at 2:00 PM, at Lathan Funeral Home, with visitation available to the public starting at 1:00 PM. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of a truly extraordinary woman who gave so much of herself to everyone around her.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Elaine's memory to a cancer charity of your choice. Let us come together to honor her life and the love she shared with all of us.
