Elisabeth Chapman “Buff” McDonald passed away peacefully at the Jackson Health Care Center on August 25, 2020 at the age of 94. She was born in Tuscumbia AL to Dr. Leiland W. Chapman and Marie Earle Shaffer Chapman on August 14, 1926. She worked for Vanity Fair as a secretary for 43 years. She was a member of the D.A.R. and the American Legion Auxiliary. She served as an elder at First Presbyterian Church of Jackson, where she was a member of the congregation her entire life.
Buff was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her siblings Leiland W. Chapman, Marie Earle Wilder, Jean C. Leonard and Edward K. Chapman.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews Marie Earle Powell (Joseph), Kaye L. Tyson (Keith), Cynthia L. Mills (Stephen), Ami L. Hill (Robert), James S. Chapman, Carl D Chapman (Kyle), Alice Tice, and Sidney Chapman (Susan). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Jackson or to the Presbyterian Children’s Home of Alabama.
A graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2020 at Pine Crest Cemetery in Jackson with the Rev. Morgan Taylor officiating and Lathan Funeral Home directing. The family will gather at the funeral home at 9 a.m. and then process to the cemetery at 9:45.
Pallbearers will be Albert H. Garrett, Andrew M. Outlaw, Maurice G. Outlaw, Michael D. Outlaw and William C. Outlaw.
Honorary pallbearers will be The Elders of the First Presbyterian Church and Anja Pace.
