Ella Lathan

Ella Mae Loper Lathan, 83, of Chatom, passed away August 24, 2025, at the Washington County Nursing Home with her family by her side. She was born May 18, 1942, to parents Henry and Willie Mae Mott Loper. Mrs. Lathan was a faithful member of Fairhope Baptist Church, where she served as Treasurer for many years. Ella retired from Alabama DHR as a certification worker. She enjoyed sewing and embroidery and spending time with her loving family.

Preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Norman Eugene Lathan, grandson Bailey Reese Baxter, brothers, JS Loper, Henry Loper Jr., Winfred Loper, and Ben Loper.

Survived by her son, Darrell (Gay) Lathan, daughters, Jill (Austin) Baxter, Brenda (Joe) Lundy, and Amanda (Gene) Keller. Grandchildren, Victoria, Doug, Lexie, Devin Lundy, and Aidan, Caleb, Jacob Baxter, brother Sam Loper, sister Shirley Loper Godwin. Also many nieces, nephews, and loving friends.

Pallbearers will be Doug Lundy, Devin Lundy, Aidan Baxter, Caleb Baxter, Jacob Baxter, Austin Baxter, and Lonnie Loper. Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of Fairhope Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Ella's memory to the Fairhope Baptist Cemetery fund (4010 Boyd-Willie Parnell Road, Tibbie, AL 36558)

Funeral Services will be at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at Fairhope Baptist Church with a visitation from 2-3 p.m. Bro, Larry Darden officiating and Lathan Funeral Home directing. Interment to follow at the church cemetery.
