Elma Wixey

Elma Gray Wixey, 85, of Jackson, passed away surrounded by family on April 30, 2025. She was born on October 18,1939, to George and Lena Dews in Sweet Water. As the middle sister out of her siblings, she developed a profound sense of family and was determined to keep her family near and dear to her always. She was a caregiver. She loved bingo, fishing, spending time with family, and going to church. If you came over to visit, she was always watching her favorite show, The Little House on the Prairie. Her family was the most important thing in her life. If you met her and she loved you, she was your mawmaw too.

Elma is preceded in death by her late husband, Felix Wixey; parents, Lena Dews and George Dews; brothers, Grady Guy Dews, Author Dews, Willie T Dews; her beloved sisters, Betty Dews Thomas and Carrie Elizabeth Alford; her great grandson, Brandon Lee Sullivan; and two of her closest friends, Judy Sullivan and Jim House.

Elma is survived by her sister, Katie Yows; daughter, Mary Dunagan (Tony); and grandchildren, Angela Gaston (Allen) and Chris Dunagan (Courtney); Teresa Sullivan (James). Her amazing great-grandchildren: Hailey Andrews, Madison Dunagan Wynn (Bailey), Harley Finney, Keyshawn Morris, Juston Dunagan, Elijah Morris, Chloe Rouse, and Ryan Williams. Bonus Great Grandchildren: Laynie, Sarah, Dyshawn, Kristian, and Kaitlyn. She has a host of nieces and nephews. She had some special friends: Janie House, Sabrina Robert, and Amanda Reed.

Services will be held on Monday, May 5, 2025 at Lathan Funeral Home, Jackson. Visitaiton will be from 11:00 a.m. until the funeral begins at 12:00 p.m. with Brother Arthur Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow at Shiloh Cemetery, Dixon Mills where she will be laid to rest with her parents and siblings.

Pallbearers will be Robert Bexley, Juston Dunagan, Elijah Morris, Allen Gaston, Keyshawn Morris, Randall Alford.

Honored pallbearers are Chris Dunagan, Brandon Gates, Randy Alford, Dyshawn Gaston, Bailey Wynn, Patrick "ET" Alford, and Brad Alford.
