Gaines Haskew

Gaines Holder Haskew was born on December 28, 1941, and died March 17, 2026. A native of Jackson, AL. He leaves behind sister in-laws Mary Beth Haskew and Betty Faye Haskew. Nieces Anne Marie Haskew and Sandra Lynn Bergman (Derek). Grandnieces Maggie Marie Bergman and Elizabeth Ellen Bergman. Nieces in- law Christine Hayes (Al), Kathy Burch (Ricky), and Sherri Companion (Mike). Nephew in- law is Robby Robinson (Drema).

He graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1965 with a degree in secondary education and later went on to get his Masters from the University of South Alabama. He taught in Mobile, AL for three years before he went to teach in Louisianna for a year. He finally settled in Fairhope, AL where he finished his 30 years of teaching at Fairhope High School. He taught advanced math and computers while writing a math book with several colleagues. With all his years at Fairhope High School, they have made a math award in his honor. Gaines was the first teacher inducted into the Teacher Hall of Fame. Also, was one of the leaders of McCann's United Methodist Church in Jackson, AL.

Hobbies were gardening and music. Instruments were played trumpet, trombone, saxophone, clarinet and piano. His favorite music was marching band and gospel. He would go to concerts occasionally.

Viewing will be at Lathan Funeral Home on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at 10am with funeral following at 11am. In leu of flowers, please send donations to McCann's United Methodist Church in memorial fund in honor of Gaines Holder Haskew.
