It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Gary Shane Wilson, who left this world on August 25, 2025, at the age of 52. Born on April 30, 1973, in Whatley, Alabama, Shane's life was marked by his indomitable spirit, love for his family, and passion for the outdoors.
Shane grew up in a close-knit community, graduating from Clarke County High School in 1991, where he was famously voted Mr. CCHS. A talented athlete, he showcased his skills on the football and baseball fields, earning admiration from his peers and coaches alike. After high school, he pursued his passion for baseball at Alabama Southern and the University of West Alabama, playing as a catcher and forming lifelong friendships along the way. Returning to Grove Hill he continued the love of baseball by coaching little league teams and travel ball for many years, he touched so many lives, and was known to many as 'Coach Shane'.
A dedicated professional, Shane built a successful career as a purchasing agent, his entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish his own business, Wilson Enterprises. He dedicated the last 18 years to ArcelorMittal, where he rose to the position of lead purchasing agent. Throughout his career, he earned respect not only for his expertise but also for his unwavering work ethic and integrity.
In 2003, Shane married the love of his life, Michelle Salter Wilson. Together, they created a warm and loving home in Grove Hill, Alabama, filled with laughter and cherished memories. He was a devoted husband, and his love for Michelle was evident to all who knew them.
An avid outdoorsman, Shane found joy in hunting and fishing, often participating in local bass tournaments where he could showcase his skills and share his passion with friends and family. His zest for life and adventure will be profoundly missed.
Preceded in death by his father Gary Earl Wilson, grandfather Amos Earl Wilson Jr., grandparents Charles and Helen Bates, and mother-in-law Billie Salter.
Shane is survived by his beloved wife Michelle, daughter Brooke (Josh) Mosley, his son Reed Wilson, and his grandchildren whom he adored Max, Clark, and Elizabeth Mosley. Also, his mother Julia (Ray) Skinner, father-in-law Richard Salter, brother-in-law Ricky Salter, sister-in-law Melissa (Junior) Dunn and nephews Kamden Dunn, and Kolbie Dunn, and Justice Dunn. Their love and memories will forever fill the void left by his passing.
Funeral services will be at 1PM on Thursday, August 28, 2025, at Tompkins Baptist Church, a visitation will be from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM. This will be a time to celebrate Shane's incredible life, share stories, and reflect on the profound impact he had on everyone around him. Burial will be at Union Baptist Church Cemetery in Grove Hill.
Pallbearers will be Chris Young, Pace Young, Daniel Fendley, Ross Wood, Fritz Bates, Rick Bates, John Wilson, and Anthony Brown.
Though he is no longer with us, Shane Wilson's spirit will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him. We celebrate his life and the legacy of love, laughter, and joy he leaves behind.
