Gene Mathews

Gene Darlene Heckathorn Mathews, 81, of Jackson was born December 24, 1944, in North Bend, Oregon, to the late Roy Ray and Ella Chandler Heckathorn. Gene departed this life in exchange for her Heavenly Home on Saturday January 17, 2026. Gene taught in the public school system for 31 years. She met and married the love of her life Joseph Nathan Mathews while he was stationed at Coos Head Naval Station in Coos Bay, Oregon. She was a faithful member of The Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Grove Hill, Alabama. Gene loved watching her Oregon Ducks and enjoyed the time traveling with her husband camping at the RV parks and traveling throughout the States.

Preceding her in death is her Husband Joseph (Joe) Nathan Mathews, mom Ella Chandler Heckathorn, father Roy Ray Heckathorn, brother George Chandler Heckathorn, her son Anthony (Tony) Marcus Mathews, and nephew William (Bill) Roy Heckathorn,

Gene is survived by: son Travis (Tonya) Michael Mathews, daughter Tina Marie Goodman, godson: Terrence (Atika) Armstead, grandkids: Michael (Kelly) Joseph Mathews, Joshua Andrew Mathews, Jeremiah Anthony Mathews, Jamar (Clair) Anthony Mathews, Jordan (Katie) Lovette, Ashley Renee Cooper, Terrence ll, Tyler, and Addison Armstead, 15 great grandkids, numerous nieces and nephews and loving friends.
