George Jones

October 28, 1924 — December 8, 2022

George E.W. Jones, 98, of Jackson, passed away peacefully December 8,2022 at his home. He was born October 28, 1924 to Eva Christine Jones and Archibald Coran Jones. George and his wife Sybil Jones were married for 74 years, having wed on August 29, 1948; their first date was hunting alligators!
Jones was known by his family and in his community as a hardworking man who enjoyed collecting antiques, including an airplane that he had parked under his carport. He loved his family dearly and sacrificed over the years to provide for his children. He was as honest as they come.
He had a strong personality that contributed towards his many successes. He passed down to his descendants his ability to focus on and develop business ventures; he often encouraged his grandchildren to earn business degrees and open businesses of their own. "A business legend for sure," is how Jones is described by his granddaughter Angela. His younger sisters both looked up to him; Nancy calls him her hero, and Dot recalls, "He was always a shining example to me of stick-to-it ingenuity. If you start a job, you finish it." His grandchildren share fond memories of visiting him at his church pew shop. Granddaughter Lori says he "Worked harder than any person I have ever known." His work ethic did not diminish with age; his daughter Jennifer caught him repairing his own roof when he was 93.
He was good at making money through hard work and business sense, but he was also generous with money to those he loved; family members recall his gifts, such as a "money tree," a dune buggy, or even a simple cold glass bottle of Coca-Cola on a hot summer day.
He made a large impact, not only on his family but his community as well through various businesses and employment opportunities. He was a hero to those who loved him and will be dearly missed by us all.
Jones was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Nathan Jay McCary; brother, Archibald Henry Jones; and most recently by his wife, Sybil Jones, on October 19, 2022.

He is survived by two sisters, Nancy Francis Beltz and Dottie Stowell. Their children Jennifer (Ron) McCary, Michael Henry Jones, and Terry Wayne Jones, grandchildren Lori (Eric) Huggins, Cynthia (Rob) Pollard, Angela Kay (Michael) Jones, Michael Paul Jones (Tracy Blankenship), Brandon Lee (Heather Mask) Jones, great grandchildren Caleb Huggins, Colin Huggins, Nathan Abbott, Logan Abbott, John Blacknall, Preston Blacknall, Braxton Jones, Addison Jones, Raygan Jones, Bryant Ray, Ashley (Wade) Adams, and great great grandchild Brooks Adams.

Pallbearers will be Rob Pollard, Nathan Abbott, Logan Abbott, Eric Huggins, Bryant Ray, Michael Jones and Brandon Jones.
