George Washington "Buddy" Skipper, III, age 76, was born February 2, 1945, to the late George Washington Skipper, II and Elizabeth Carmichael Skipper in Birmingham, Alabama. George died on January 30, 2022. After attending Jackson High School, he attended Marion Military Institute, followed by the University of Alabama. George had many hobbies such as hunting and fishing, but most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and close friends.
Many people knew George "Buddy" Skipper as the beloved owner of the popular restaurant chain Tacky Jacks. George Skipper, better known as Buddy, bought the first Tacky Jacks in Orange Beach in 1987. Over the past three decades, he opened a restaurant in Fort Morgan and a franchise in Gulf Shores. His other business endeavors include Skipper Insurance Agencies, Palomar Insurance Corporation, and positions on the Board of Directors of Vision Bank and Capstone Bank, but his civic and community involvement has always been a passion. This dedication was not limited to his beloved city. George also served as Chairman of the March of Dimes for Clarke County where he was a member for ten years, was a "Paul Harris Fellow" with the Jackson Rotary Club where he also served as president, was president of the Greater Clarke Washington Fair Association for four years and was a former member of the Governor's Task Force on Medicaid.
George knew the value of investing in the future of our youth. He supported Jackson Academy as a member of the Board of Directors, Marion Military Institute as a member of the President's Advisory Board, the Area Council of Boy Scouts, and the Clarke County Youth Facility.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Helen O'Melia Skipper; parents; infant twins; infant triplets, and great-granddaughter, Salli Elizabeth Parden.
He is survived by his four sons, George Washington Skipper IV (Jennifer), Thomas Gray Skipper, Richard Carmichael Skipper (Debra), David O'Melia Skipper (Jessica); eleven grandchildren, Meagan Skipper Hoven (Kipp), George W.
