With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Gerry Fay Griffin, age 89, who departed this life on December 10, 2025, in Jackson, AL. Born to her parents, William Jesse Griffin and Gladys Few Griffin, on November 25, 1936, she lived a life marked by compassion, devotion, and a spirit of generosity that touched all who knew her.
Gerry was a beloved figure in her community, known for her unwavering love for the Lord and her deep commitment to serving others. Her passion for helping children was evident through her work with the Sonlight Ministry, where she dedicated her time and resources to provide food, gifts, and joyful celebrations, including the cherished Christmas "Happy Birthday for Jesus" parties. She had a soft spot for animals, finding joy in the company of her cats, dogs, and goats, embodying a love for all living things.
A retired registered nurse who imparted her knowledge as a nursing instructor in Thomasville and Mobile Infirmary, Gerry was not only a skilled caregiver but also a mentor to many aspiring nurses. Her early years spent working alongside her father in the family meat shop instilled in her a strong work ethic that she carried throughout her life. In her leisure time, she found solace and joy in fishing, hunting, and tending to her garden, reflecting on her appreciation for nature. Affectionately known as "Aunt Fay Fay" to family and friends, she was known for her quick wit and playful banter, often ensuring she got the last word in conversations.
Gerry is preceded in death by her parents, William Jesse and Gladys Griffin; her sisters Jewel Griffin Paul, Shirley Chastain, and Judy Foster.
Gerry is survived by her brothers, James Griffin and Billy Griffin and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends, who will carry on her legacy of kindness and faith.
A graveside service will be held in her honor at Mt. Gilead Baptist Cemetery on December 13, 2025, at 11:00 AM. with Bro. Johnny Kendrick officiating and Lathan Funeral Home directing. The ceremony will celebrate her extraordinary life and the indelible mark she left on those who were fortunate to know her.
Pallbearers will be Patrick Paul, Andrew Paul, Clayton Paul, Bo Paul, Kyle Griffin, and Darek Busby.
As we remember Gerry Fay Griffin, we are reminded of her profound influence, her compassionate heart, her commitment to her faith, her love of family, and her desire to make the world a better place. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all whose lives she touched.
