Grady Wayne Ketchum, 86, of Jackson, passed away on May 27, 2023. He was born on April 24, 1937, to parents Dr. H. Grady and Katharyn Hurley Ketchum. He attended Jackson High School and played the trumpet in the marching band, starting in the 5th grade. He attended T.V. school in Chicago, Illinois, Grady met his wife, Sue Stewart while going on a T.V. repair call, yes that really happened, he asked her to marry him and they were married on August 1, 1958. They moved to Monroeville, and he worked for Lazenby Electric and Barfield Furniture as their T.V. repairman. In 1973 he opened his own T.V. repair shop in Jackson, Grady's T.V. Service until 1991. He enjoyed woodworking and sold items he made at craft shows. He made very special wooden rocking horses for his grandchildren and great grandchildren, they will cherish these. He loved the outdoors, trot line fishing, Alabama football, and boating, he had a ski boat in the 50's and loved to water ski and taught many friends how to water ski too. He helped Sue in the nursery at church, he loved gospel music, and his church. He could fix anything and liked helping people. He loved his family very much and cherished the times he spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents, sister Karolyn Ketchum Coulter, and grandson Nathan Johnson.
Survived by his wife of 64 years, Sue Stewart Ketchum, his son Wayne (Kim) Ketchum, daughter Teresa (Mark) McKinney, grandchildren Sarah (James) Long, Josh Johnson, Mathew Ketchum, Bruno (Marilia) Silva, great grandchildren Brookley Kate Long, Briley Grace Long, Carmen Raylyn Ketchum, Natalie Sofia Ketchum, Kohen Sage Ketchum, Arthur Silva and john Silva, sister Rosalyn Duke.
Pallbearers will be Josh Johnson, Mathew Ketchum, James Long, Jimmy Stewart, Cameron Howard, Neal Grimes, and Jim Hoven.
Funeral Services will be at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at Jackson First Baptist Church with a visitation one hour prior to services. Dr. Ben Stubblefield officiating and Lathan Funeral Home directing. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in memory of Mr. Grady Ketchum to H. Grady Ketchum fund at Jackson First Baptist Church or Pilots for Christ 107 Airport Road Monroeville, AL 36460.
