Hershel "Doat" Jones, 92, of Jackson passed away on June 10, 2026. He was born on August 20, 1933, in Coffeeville, to his parents Nathan Jones and Ester Pettis Jones. "Doat" as he was affectionately known by, was a member of Jackson Church of Christ. Doat proudly served with dedication in the United States Air Force for 27 years. After retiring from the Air Force, he worked at Boise as a mechanic. He enjoyed working and raising several different kinds of nut trees. Doat was an avid Alabama Football fan, cheering them on whenever they were playing.

Doat is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Rada Milstead Jones; son Cliff Jones; siblings Levon Jones, Raymond Jones, Winifred "Tom" Jones, Margaret Barr, Dee Davis.

He is survived by his children; Tim Jones and Cindy Jones and daughter-in-law Terri Jones; grandchildren Rory Jones, Leslie Jones, Bonnie Baugh, Sarah (A.J.) Williams, Jessie (Johnathan) Cole, Brent (Ellie) Jones, Amber (Sean) Rupard, Noah Jones, and Austin Eargle and 13 great grandchildren, and brother Tom (Molly) Jones, sisters Martha (Carl) Pinkston, and Carolyn Pritchett.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 15, 2026, at Lathan funeral Home in Jackson, Alabama, at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation beginning one hour prior. Interment will follow at trinity Memorial gardens. Bro. Larry Burch is officiating with Lathan Funeral Home directing.
