James Goodwin

James Reginald Goodwin, 74, of Grove Hill, passed away April 20, 2021. Born September 25, 1946, in Allen, Alabama to Thomas James and Elsie Ray Kelly Goodwin. Mr. Goodwin was a member of Grove Hill Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and enjoyed teaching Sunday School. Mr. Goodwin graduated class of 1964 at Clarke County High School, he was an operator at Allied Paper Mill/Boise Cascade for 47 years. He loved spending time with the youth coaching little league baseball, and he was a member of the Grove Hill Lion's Club where he also served his community. Reggie served his country by enlisting in the U.S. Army, after his enlistment he joined the Army National Guard, 1167th Signal Company (cable & wire), Retiring Sergeant First Class on 31st day of August, 1995.

Preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Doris Crawford, Willie Kathryn (Patty) Gilchrist.

Survived by his wife of 55 years, Dixie Wilson Goodwin, daughters, Tracey (Nick) Walker, Tammy (Jay) Brasell, and Terri (Steve) Carpenter. Grandchildren, Wesley (Jennalee) Goodwin, Taylor (Brooke) Carpenter, Tyler Walker, Abbey (Larry) Haag, Wil Brasell, Hannah Walker, Carly Carpenter, and Whitney Brasell. Great grandchildren, Emma Grace Goodwin and Allie Hope Goodwin.

Pallbearers will be Wesley Goodwin, Taylor Carpenter, Tyler Walker, Wil Brasell, Larry Haag, and Tony Gilchrist. Honorary pallbearers, Alabama National Guard 1167th Signal Company, Larry Walker, Jason Guy, Matt Harrison, Billy Fendley, Boise Cascade woodyard crew 1965-2012. Special thanks to the caregivers that have taken such good care of our father, Debbie Ogle, Chasity Lassiter, and Brenda Hicks.

A visitation will be Thursday, April 22, 2021, from 5 p.m to 7 p.m. at Grove Hill Baptist Church, and Funeral Services will be Friday April 23, 2021, at 10 a.m. at the church with Dr. Kyle Routzahn and Dr. Randy Boone officiating with Lathan Funeral Home directing. Interment will be at Union Baptist Church cemetery.
