James O. Griffin, 85, passed away on March 21, 2026 surrounded by his loved ones at his home. He was born in Walker Springs, Alabama on January 3, 1941, to his parents WJ and Gladys Few Griffin.
James always put God first, family second, followed by friends, hunting and fishing. He was a longtime member of Tompkins Baptist Church where he served many years as a deacon. He served on the board of directors of the Washington County State Bank for several years, a position that he truly loved.
James is survived by his wife of 65 years, Linda Griffin, daughter Cay Griffin, sons Hurd (Amy) Griffin and Kyle Griffin; grandchildren Adrienne (Tom) Myers, Whitney Sutton, Sam (Morgan) Griffin, Jessica Griffin, Addis Griffin, Olivia (Trey) Napper, Maggie Autrey, Ella (Noah) Wheat, Carys (Chandler) Long and Vada Autrey. James also had 10 great grandchildren that he loved very much.
James is preceded in death by his parents, WJ and Gladys Griffin; sisters Jewel Paul, Shirley Chastain, Gerry Fay Griffin, and Judy Foster; brother Billy Griffin; and great granddaughter Zurri'Anna Griffin.
Services will be held at Tompkins Baptist Church, 14130 US-43 Grove Hill, Alabama 36451 on Tuesday, March 24, 2026. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. with the service starting at 11:00 a.m. Dr. Johnny Kendrick will be officiating with Lathan Funeral Home directing. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Sam Griffin, Wyatt McAdams, James Carbine, Rusty Carbine, Patrick Paul, and Andrew Paul. Honorary Pallbearers are Ellis Paul, Jimmy Paul, Mike Paul, David Paul, Jackie Chastain, Jr., and Greg Chastain. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in James' name to Tompkins Baptist Church or the Alabama Baptist Children's Home.
