Lamar Reid

December 4, 1943 — March 17, 2026

James Lamar Reid passed away peacefully on March 17, 2026 at the age of 82. Lamar was the son of the late William Vernon Reid and Essie Coats Reid and was born on December 4, 1943 in Grove Hill, Alabama.

Lamar is survived by his wife of 60 years, Evelyn Ann Brown Reid; his son, James Lamar (Debbie) Reid, Jr.; and his grandchildren, Anna (Ryan) Challacombe, Ethan Reid, and Dalton (Melissa) Reid. He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Darren Reid, and his brother, Herman Floyd Reid.

Lamar graduated from Clarke County High School in 1961 where he enjoyed playing basketball and baseball. He loved telling stories about his days growing up in Grove Hill, working at Burge's Grocery Store, and riding his bike around town delivering newspapers. He enjoyed reminiscing of days spent with his cousins Charles and Edward Guy among others.

Lamar worked at Allied Paper Company/Boise Cascade for 45 years before retiring in 2011. He treasured the friendships he made there and said he never dreaded going to work.

Lamar was a determined man, accomplishing almost anything he decided to do. He could solve nearly any math problem without a pencil, paper, or calculator. When doing projects at their home, he would get a code book and study, and then do it all himself. He also mastered carpentry, building kitchen cabinets and some furniture pieces for their home. He enjoyed helping his boys with their projects, from home improvement to car restoration and engine work. He enjoyed spending time outside with his grandkids, teaching them to fish, fly kites, and play baseball.

Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service at 10:00am, Saturday, March 21st at Trinity Memorial Gardens. Brother Danny Chancey will be officiating. Honorary pallbearers are Edward Guy, Randy Reid, Ray Zakary, Gene Cleveland, Sam Lawrence, Robert O'Guynn, Marlin O'Guynn, Clint O'Guynn, Gary Howell and Brad O'Guynn.
