James Thomas "Tommy" Byrd, Jr.

James Thomas Byrd, Jr, affectionately known as “Tommy”, died Saturday, January 13, 2024 at SAAD Hospice Retreat. Tommy was born November 16, 1962 to James Thomas Sr and Martha Knight Byrd. He graduated from Thomasville High School prior to attending and graduating from Auburn University. Tommy then worked as a Senior Chemist at BASF for 35 years. He enjoyed reading, traveling, and spending time with his friends and his beloved pet, Bam. Tommy’s quick wit and humor will be missed by all who knew him.

Tommy is survived by his siblings, Jerry (Jennifer) James, Renee (Neal) Bishop, and Deborah (Jay) Eubanks; several nieces and nephews as well as his special friends, Dr. & Mrs. David Dillard.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Services will be held Friday, January 19, 2024 at Lathan Funeral Home, Jackson. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral begins at 11:00 a.m. with Bro. Larry Cox officiating. Interment will follow in West Bend Baptist Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Derek James, Phillip James, John Bishop, Lloyd Bishop, Dyson James and Nathan James.

Honorary pallbearers will be the employees of BASF Lab.
