James Tucker

January 16, 1942 — August 23, 2022

James Roy Tucker was born January 16, 1942 in Milwaukee, WI. He passed away after a long battle with congestive heart failure on August 23, 2022. He graduated from Princess Anne High School, attended Elon College on a football scholarship, then graduated from the Apprentice School of Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company before moving on to become a Project Manager of Power Generation for Westinghouse. He built power plants in the Southeast United States then joined Westinghouse International and began working in Libya, Saudi Arabia and Mexico. He moved back to the States to run a machine shop for Westinghouse in Mobile, AL then retired to McIntosh. He traveled all over the world but was happiest outdoors- whether hunting, gardening, riding his ATV (always accompanied by a four-footed friend), or using his tractor.

In his forties, he found God and was a driving force behind building McIntosh First Baptist Church. He sang in the choir, taught Sunday school and was a devoted member of the Gideons. He was also very active in Christians on Mission. Community meant a lot to Jim. He kept tabs on so many people and helped out whenever possible. He was a consummate prankster but when admonished, he'd give a little grin, laugh, and say "The devil made me do it!" The loss of his humor, antics and love leaves a giant hole in the community's heart.

He is survived by his wife Jerilyn (McIntyre) of 46 years, three children Craig Tucker (Annette), Lynne Warren (Neil) and Laura Corgan (Terrence), seven grandchildren: Alex, Katherine, Michelle, Adam, Elizabeth, Matthew and Kyle, six great-grandchildren: Adeline, Emma, Eleanor, Harrison, Barrett and Margot, three brothers: Edward Tucker (Susan), Mark Very (Marilyn) and Kent Very (Debra). He was predeceased by his parents: Ruth Ann Goodwyn and James Edward Very and adopted father Edward D. Tucker.

Pallbearers will be Alex Tucker, Mathew Corgan, Kyle Corgan, Terry Corgan, Adam Warren, Neil Warren. Honorary Pallbearers are the Members of McIntosh First Baptist Church.

Funeral Services will be at 12 p.m. on Friday, August 26, 2022, at McIntosh First Baptist Church with a visitation one hour prior to services. Bro. John Stone officiating and Lathan Funeral Home directing.
