Jessie Leonard "Bill" Johnson, Sr., 71, of Gainestown, passed away Thursday, March 4, 2021 at Jackson Health Care Facility. He was born in Clarke County on June 23, 1949 to Jack Sanford Johnson and Agnes Louise Bryan Johnson. He had been employed for 45 years as a maintenance mechanic at Alabama Power. He enjoyed outdoor activities, especially turkey and deer hunting, as well as tending his yard and spending time with his family. He was also an avid fan of The University of Alabama football program.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Matthew Johnson and brother, Melvis Johnson.
He is survived by his children, Jessica (Michael) Langley, Jessie Leonard (Gwen) Johnson, Jr., Jeffrey (Ashley) Johnson; grandchildren, Kayla (Jeffrey) Meadows, Shelby Langley, Ryan Byrd, Jessie Johnson, III, Lily Jones, Addie Johnson, Connor Johnson; great-grandchildren, Dalton Meadows, Jameson Meadows; siblings, Mary Lou (Jesse) Mears, Doris (Len) Hinds, Ronnie (Edith) Johnson and numerous other relatives and friends.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 7, 2021 at Creola Cemetery in Creola with the Rev. Derrall Marshall officiating and Lathan Funeral Home directing.
Pallbearers will be Ryan Byrd, Len Hinds, Jay Johnson, Jessie Johnson, III, Robert Johnson and Tommy Tones.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Jones, Nancy and Rivers Phelon, Harvey Reed, Vernon Snow and Shane Thomas.
