August 29, 1946 - April 28, 2026
Rev. Jimmy Wayne Roberts, 79, passed peacefully from this life at 3:25 a.m. on April 28, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Jimmy was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, minister, and friend. He loved his family and his Lord with all his heart, and he lived a life that reflected both every single day.
He is survived by his wife, Debbie Roberts; his sons, Tim Roberts (Lindsey) and Scott Roberts (Lori Anne); his grandchildren, Devin Roberts (Angel), Zane Roberts (Lexi), Lora Alice Lassiter, Hanna Latham (Ryan), and Harley McGuire (Will); and his great-grandchildren, Abbie Roberts, Max Roberts, Hailey Roberts, and Bo Clemmons. He is also survived by his sisters, Teresa Smith (Robby) and Twila Mitchell (Bob), along with a host of extended family and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Aimee Roberts; his parents, Molly Gilley and J.D. Roberts, and stepmother Grace Ikner Roberts; his grandparents, Maynard and Pearl Anderson Roberts, and Willis Lee and Nellie Dees Gilley; and his brothers, Junior Roberts (Paulette), Gerald Roberts (Alma), and Ralph Roberts.
Jimmy faithfully served the Lord in many capacities throughout his life. He pastored three churches, served as a deacon, and dedicated many years as piano player, secretary, and treasurer at Hobson Assembly of God. He retired from CAM Corporation in Chatom after more than 40 years of faithful service.
Music and ministry were central to his life. He played piano and sang with The Journeymen Quartet, The Gospel Echoes, and The Ambassadors. During his time with The Ambassadors and afterward, he and his wife Debbie formed a duet ministry, preaching revivals from Louisiana to Michigan and touching countless lives along the way.
Jimmy's life was nothing short of remarkable. Born with a brittle bone disease, doctors said he would not live past the age of 12. But through faith, determination, and the prayers of a believing grandmother, he not only lived-he thrived. Although he had hundreds of broken bones throughout his early life, after giving his life to Christ at age 16, he never suffered another.
In 1976, Jimmy was honored as the Handicapped Worker of the Year for the state of Alabama. In 2019, he and his wife Debbie were inducted into the Washington County Hall of Fame.
To me, he wasn't just Reverend Jimmy Roberts-he was Dad. He was my hero, my example, and one of the strongest men I've ever known. I watched him face things most people couldn't imagine, yet he went through it all with unwavering faith, strength, and a testimony that never changed. His life was a living example of God's power and faithfulness-from the odds he overcame as a child to the ministry he carried throughout his life. If you ever heard him sing or preach, you already know-he didn't just talk about God, he lived for Him. His story wasn't just about survival, it was about victory, and that legacy will live on in all of us.
Pallbearers will be Don Welborn, Shane Pridgen, Tyler Pridgen, Allen Burr, Nathan Welborn, David Gallant. Honorary Pallbearers are Members from the churches he pastored, and pastors and members from churches he sang and preached.
A visitation for friends and family will be Friday May 1, 2026, from 6-8 at Hobson Assembly of God
