John Grimes

John Autry Grimes, 94, of St. Stephens passed away April 14, 2018 at USA Medical Center in Mobile. He was born March 9, 1924 to Joseph Turner Grimes and Grace Evelyn Marshall Grimes. A WWII veteran of the U.S. Army, he was also a member of Midway Methodist Church and had attended Creola Assembly of God while living there. He also served a term on the Creola City Council and helped to establish nutrition centers in both Creola and St. Stephens. A big family man, he enjoyed spending time outdoors fishing and hunting and was a big fan of both Alabama football and Atlanta Braves baseball. He also loved his job as a maintenance supervisor at Alcoa Aluminum.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 49 years, Lois Moseley Grimes; second wife, Ethel Moss Grimes; son, Ferrell Grimes; granddaughter, Lisa Motes and siblings, Robert Grimes and Earline Schramm.
He is survived by his grandchildren, Kim (Elvin) Ross, Kathy (Terry) Wallace, Susan (Ricky) Howell, Ronnie (Meagan) Grimes; 11 great-grandchildren, 10 great, great-grandchildren and sister, Jimmie Dell Moseley.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at Midway Assembly of God Church in St. Stephens with Revs. Randy Grimes, Sonny Scarbrough and Steve Mason officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Midway Methodist Cemetery in St. Stephens with Lathan Funeral Home directing.
Pallbearers will be Jack Johnson, Tommy Johnson, John Robert Moseley, Mark Brown, Gary Goldman and Tommy Siebert.
Honorary pallbearers will be L.V. and Carol Sue Goldman, Buddy Bryant, Joe Enzor, Kim Goldman, Joe Abston, Daryl Deas and Danny Drake.
