Julia Louise Henson Cumlander, age 86, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and service to others.

Julia was a devoted mother and a proud grandmother whose greatest joy in life was her family. She cherished every moment spent with those she loved and created countless memories that will be treasured forever.

She had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and found happiness in life's simple pleasures. Whether she was cutting the grass, spending a peaceful day fishing, or simply enjoying the beauty of nature, Julia was most at home outside. She was an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching all kinds of sports and was always ready to cheer on her favorite teams.

Julia also had a lifelong love of reading. Her home was never without a stack of books waiting to be read, and she found comfort and adventure within their pages. When she wasn't reading, she could often be found enjoying her favorite television show, Criminal Minds.

Known for her warm heart and generous spirit, Julia was widely loved throughout the community. As a dedicated public servant, she spent her life helping others with compassion, integrity, and a genuine desire to make a difference. Along with being a public servant, she was also a businesswoman who worked 18 years as an insurance agent for State Farm. Her commitment to serving her community earned the respect and admiration of all who knew her.

Julia will be remembered for her unwavering love for her family, her dedication to her community, her strength, and her joyful spirit. Though she will be deeply missed, her kindness, wisdom, and the love she shared will continue to live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all whose lives she touched.

Julia is preceded in death by her parents, David "Sonny" Henson and Leta Goldman Spurlin; husband, Sidney Wayne Cumlander; son, Richard "Richie" Kevin Cumlander; fiancé, Jerry Matthews; and brother, Alton Henson.

She is survived by her sons, Ron (Libby) Cumlander and David Cumlander; grandchildren, Katie (Jonathan) Braswell, Kyle (Hannah) Cumlander, Ally Cumlander, Lanie Cumlander, and Tyeson Cumlander; great-grandchildren, Julia Braswell, Emma Braswell, and one great-grandchild on the way, expected to be welcomed by her grandson, Kyle Cumlander, and his wife, Hannah.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Grove Hill Town Cemetery. Dr. Johnny Kendrick, Ron Cumlander, and Lanie Cumlander will be officiating under the direction of Lathan Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Daryl Henson, Donald Henson, Dwayne Huggins, Kaden Pierce, Tim Schultz, and Steve Kelley. Honorary pallbearer is Rob Phillips.
