Lisa Michelle Scruggs, age 64, of Jackson, Alabama, fell asleep in death on June 27, 2026. Born on March 13, 1962, in Canton, North Carolina, she was the daughter of Carole Wilson Modlin.

Michelle's faith was the central driving force of her life. She dedicated herself to her faith at sixteen years old and remained a deeply involved and devoted member of the Jehovah's Witness congregations in which she served, most recently the Jackson, Alabama, congregation. Even when physical disability restricted her from attending meetings in person, her devotion never wavered; she faithfully attended virtually and participated as often as possible. Michelle loved her congregation deeply and cherished the spiritual community she built over the decades.

Beyond her spiritual life, Michelle was a woman of immense creativity and intellect. An amazing artist, she had a deep appreciation for a good book, an engaging show or movie, and a beautiful poem. Above all, Michelle was known for her brilliant sense of humor and her love for a quick-witted reply. She could give as well as she got, keeping everyone around her on their toes.

Michelle was also fiercely independent and private. If you were lucky enough to be in her inner circle, it was only because she trusted you completely to be there. Among those trusted few were her dear friends and neighbors, Timmy and Starlett Rowell. They were unshakeable in their care and support for Michelle for years, and she loved them just like her own family.

Michelle is survived by her mother, Carole Modlin of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee; her sisters, Kristy Manes of Red Wing, Minnesota, and April Brooks of Tupelo, Mississippi; her nieces and nephew, Hannah Hood and Abbey Brooks, both of Tupelo, Mississippi, and Connor Cole of Silverhill, Alabama; and several great-nieces and great-nephews who brought immense joy to her life. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Sam and Mary Wilson.

Memorial services for Michelle will be held at the Jehovah's Witnesses Kingdom Hall in Jackson, Alabama, on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at 6 p.m.
