Lowde Robinson

July 4, 1931 — December 8, 2025

Lowde Robinson entered the world small in stature big on life as the oldest child and only son of Bruce and Nettie Robinson on July 4, 1931. Lowde confessed life at an early age at Old St. Matthew's Church. Lowd completed the 11th grade at Harper High School which was quite an accomplishment for African American males at that time. One of the funniest stories but important life lessons can be attached to why the 12th was not completed. Like many of his peers Lowde grew up in a loving home where hard work was mandatory. Farming, syrup making and other chores taught him survival as well as family bonding time. In the later years of his life, he would tell these stories and reflect on how times have changed.

Lowde was a proud veteran of the Korean War and often reminisced with stories of the ship ride to Korea, the troops being served horse meat and the feeling of returning to US soil. Later in life Lowde was a seasoned veteran of the construction industry to provide for his family. Lowd relocated to Mobile then Pittsburgh using this trade. Lowde often worked on "the road" with construction crews as well as for HUD Homes. This occupation led to him having something to consume his time after retirement. According to his wife Alice sometimes he "beat and bammed" and "tore up things" and made more trips than necessary to the hardware store. Lowd loved a great drink of Cognac and shiny. He was known to complain that moonshine was just not made like it used to be!

The last few years Lowde spent his time between spending time with his very devoted sister Velma in Alabama and his home in Pittsburgh. Velma and Lowde were "two peas " in a pod and known to be each other's right hand, peace as well as arguing partner. They spent many days watching court shows, CNN and making their daily trips to Dirt Cheap. Lowde learned a lot about technology and gained the best "little buddy" with his great niece Ayvah-Grace whom Lowde turned a blind eye to any of her mischief, babysit her dolls and ran, not walked but ran across HWY. 43 at close to the age of 90 to retrieve her drone off of the highway. From Dora the Explorer to Juju on The Beat he made sure to spend time with his "little best friend" He would always tell her "Baby you just getting in the world and I am on my way out." He didn't let age defy him and stayed in amazing shape until shortly before his death for an "ol' man".

Lowde was preceded in death by his wife of over 60 years Alice, son Delaney, daughter Verlean, parents Red and Nettie, sisters Velma (very devoted), Arthur B and Eartha Mae.

He is survived by his son Willie McMeansand wife Luisa, whom he resided with Manche McMeans and daughter Dorthy Marie, sister Thelma Powell. A special niece by marriage Geraldine, nieces Angel, whom he spent a lot of time with, Tricia, Brenda, and nephews Reggie, who took Lowde to the Korean War Memorial in which Lowd had a lot to say about, Darryl, and Johnny. A special great niece Ayvah-Grace (Lowd called her any name that crossed his mind at the time), grandchildren Demetria Mitchel and Gabriel (Marcella) Mitchell. Known as Papa to Troy, Simone, Lorraine, Shaun, Melissa, Yvonne, Veronica, Jerome, David, Trent, DeWanna, Willie Jr., Jerell, Sasha, and Arvell. Other friends and family will sincerely miss Lowde, his memories, the stories he told and DEFINITELY the words he used.
