Mae Carole Hudson Hill, a long-time resident of Grove Hill, was born on August 30, 1946, to James Dewey and Mildred Allen Hudson. She entered glory surrounded by her family on June 29, 2025.
She lived most of her life in Clarke County with a few years spent in Mississippi in the early 1980s. Professionally, she enjoyed a variety of careers over the years. She was a licensed real estate agent, industrial developer for Clarke County, and was the county's first ever license commissioner, appointed by then governor, Guy Hunt. Additionally, she owned a used car lot and timber business. In her later years, she worked part-time for the United States Department of Agriculture, visiting local farmers to conduct government surveys. She loved to stay busy and could work circles around women half her age.
Ms. Hill was a former member of the Grove Hill Academy board of directors and former chairman of the Clarke County Jr. Miss program. Through this program, she touched the lives of dozens of young women in the county, keeping in touch with many of them until her death.
She was a founding member of and trustee at Community of Faith Methodist Church in Jackson, Alabama, where she also taught the youth Sunday school class and was a member of the ladies' Bible study.
She was devoted to her family and her friends and left a lasting impression on everyone with whom she came in contact. Her warmth and compassion drew people in and made them feel loved and welcomed. A proud hostess, she enjoyed collecting china and setting beautiful tables, and the highlight of her week was the Sunday afternoon lunch she prepared weekly for her family.
Her greatest joy in life was being a mother and later, a grandmother, and her family was the most important thing in her life, aside from her relationship with Jesus.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her former husband John A. Hill, and her beloved son, John Adam Hill. She leaves behind a daughter Tiffany Hill Newsom, son-in-law John Newsom, three grandchildren-Laura Katherine Newsom, John Hill Newsom, Mary Hannah Newsom Buckner, a grandson-in-law, Frank Bucker IV, and granddaughters Anna Buckner and Caroline Grey Buckner, whose arrival she was looking forward to in August, along with a host of nieces and nephews and friends whom she loved like family.
