Margaret Bowling

Margaret Elizabeth "Betty" Bowling, 90, of Jackson passed away September 5, 2018 at her residence. She was born January 9, 1928 to Herbert J. and Louise York Champion. She was very active in civic organizations in Jackson and was selected as the Jackson Citizen of the Year in 1992. She was also a member of the Woman's Club and spearheaded the revitalization committee responsible for the transformation of the Lorenz McCrary House to the Chamber of Commerce and served on the Downtown Revitalization Committee. Her volunteer activities included Camp Rap-A-Hope and the Ronald McDonald House.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dr. Robert S. Bowling, Jr. and special friend, Annie Mae McMillan.
She is survived by her children, Robert S. Bowling, III, Ann Bowling (Frank E. "Happy") White, Dr. Herbert C. "Champ" (Jenny) Bowling, Richard R. Bowling; grandchildren, Dr. M. Scott (Robin) Coleman, Dr. Ashley D. (Michelle) Coleman, F. Shaw White, Elizabeth Schell (Drew) Morgan, Evin Marie (Jennifer) Bowling, Margaret Lee "Maggie" (Chad) Dickinson, Ashley White (Eddy) Diaz and great-grandchildren, Russell Bowling Coleman, Mary Elizabeth Coleman, Matthew Scott Coleman, Brantley Ayden Dickinson, Champion Harbuck Dickinson, Allie Williams and Aniston Williams.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Friday, September 7, 2018 at First United Methodist Church in Jackson with the Rev. Dr. Danielle May, Mac McCorquodale and Dr. Ashley Coleman officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at the Bowling Family Cemetery in Leroy with Lathan Funeral Home directing.
Pallbearers will be Scott Coleman, Ashley Coleman, Shaw White, Evin Bowling, Kevin Taylor, Bo Coleman and Ray Beech.
Honorary pallbearers will be Betty Beard, Louis Finlay, Paul Waite, Mac McCorquodale and Dan Outlaw.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to FUMC Capital Fund, Pilots for Christ, Camp Rap-A-Hope or Ronald McDonald House.
