Mrs. Margaret Elaine Branum Carr was born June 25, 1937, in Greenville, Alabama. She passed away on August 5, 2026, at the age of 89. She was the daughter of the late Kermit Branum and Marguerite Hickman Branum.
She is survived by her daughters, Kelly (Allan) Stallings and Kimberly (Bill) Pate, both of Tuscaloosa; her sons, Rance (ReGina) Carr, Jr. of Kennesaw, Georgia; and Chris (Jolie) Carr of Spanish Fort; eight adoring grandchildren: Hayden, Holly, Hannah, Mack, Chris, Melody, Sydney and Caroline; and five precious great-grandchildren: Parker, Chloe, Cam, Aiden, and Ava.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Charles Branum; her sister, Carolyn Branum Lloyd; and her beloved husband of 56 years, Rance Carr, Sr.
Mrs. Carr was a graduate of Monroe County High School. She attended Baylor University, where she studied vocal performance and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education. She received a Master of Arts degree in Education from Livingston University.
While at Baylor, she met the love of her life, Rance Henry Carr, Sr. The couple married on August 17, 1957, during their junior year of college and went on to raise four loving children.
A dedicated educator, Mrs. Carr taught for many years in Monroe, Sumter, Perry, and Clarke counties. She was also a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Jackson, where she faithfully served as Minister of Music for 42 years.
Mrs. Carr had a passion for music, singing, and gardening. She loved the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Baylor Bears. She also was well known for her love of shopping.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at First United Methodist Church in Jackson, Alabama, with the Rev. Jim DuFriend officiating. Visitation will be at the church beginning at 10:00 a.m. with the service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Pineville Cemetery in Monroeville under the direction of Lathan Funeral Home of Jackson.
Pallbearers will be Chris Carr, Rance Carr, Jr., Mack Pate, Christopher Pate, Allan Stallings, and Michael Whitehead, Jr.. Honorary pallbearers include Mike Whitehead, Ken Rivers, Bart Lloyd, Robbie Lloyd, Randy Lloyd, Bill Pate, Carreen Bolen, Charlene Noble, Janiece Atchison, and Jimmy and Emma Jean Bedsole.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the First United Methodist Church Chancel Choir, P.O. Box 385, Jackson, Alabama, 36545.
May her memory be a blessing to all who knew and loved her.
