Margie Overstreet

May 9, 1946 — September 13, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Margie Jones Overstreet, a beloved matriarch, who left this world peacefully on September 13, 2025, at the age of 79. Born on May 9, 1946, in Jackson, Margie made her home in Gainestown where she touched the lives of many with her warmth and kindness.

Margie, a proud homemaker and devoted wife to her husband, Bonnie Ray Overstreet, dedicated her life to her family and community. As an active member of Jones Chapel Methodist Protestant Church, she served as Secretary for many years, bringing her organizational skills and caring spirit to the congregation and embodying what it meant to be service-oriented. Known affectionately as "Gran" by her cherished children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, Margie was always ready to check in to see how everyone was doing, wrapping them in her love and support.

Those who had the pleasure of knowing Margie will remember her sweet disposition and her willingness to stand up for the causes close to her heart. Her garden was her sanctuary and the Camp was her haven. She found joy in tending to her beautiful roses and welcoming the yard birds that came to visit her garden; she found peace in riding the side-by-side, rocking on the porch, and spending quality time with her loved ones. Margie also had a passion for cooking, delighting her family with her famous chicken and dumplings, dressing, and scrumptious bread pudding. An enthusiastic Auburn University fan, she proudly cheered for her team with unwavering loyalty.

Margie's legacy of love, compassion, and unwavering support will shine on in the hearts of everyone she touched.

Funeral services to honor Margie's life will be held Wednesday, September 24, 2025 at Lathan Funeral Home, Jackson, where family and friends will come together to celebrate her remarkable journey and the joy she brought into our lives. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral begins at 11:00 a.m. with Bro. John Kinman, officiating. Interment will follow in Jones Chapel Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Freddie Pringle, Keith Overstreet, Chris Overstreet, Jason Haynes, Russ Jones, and Jarad Jones.

Honorary pallbearers will be Emory Mosley, Cleo Fox, Elwood Overstreet Jr., Butch Perkins, Willie Lewis Jackson, Tony Cox, Todie Windham, Justin Overstreet, and Greg Moore.

In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations in Margie's memory to Jones Chapel Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 175, Jackson, AL 36545, as a testament to her spirit of giving.

Margie is survived by her devoted husband of 63 years, Bonnie Ray Overstreet; daughters, Darlene Jacobs (Tim) and Darla Batley (David); grandchildren, Jon Luke Jacobs (Taylor), Julie Anne King (Will), and Tucker Batley; great grandchildren, Miles Jacobs and Sutton Rae Jacobs; siblings, Sherry Krout, Johnnie Jones, Jr (Brenda), Wayne Jones (Merilyn), Deanna Overstreet (Ronnie), Karen Anderson (Leo), and Larry Jones (Penny); brother-in-law, Fred Pringle; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Johnnie Earl Jones, Sr. and Eldred Bryan Jones; sisters, Fay Pringle and Reba Overstreet; and brothers-in-law, Woodie Overstreet and V. O. Krout.
