Maria Richardson

Maria Martinez Richardson, 61, passed away from this life on January 26, 2022, at her home in Chatom, Alabama. She was born on July 24, 1960, in Las Vegas, Nevada, to Louis Martinez and Mildred Singleton Grossman.

Maria graduated from Davidson High School in Mobile, Alabama, in 1978. Following graduation, she attended cosmetology school, where she received her Alabama Cosmetology License. After working in the field of cosmetology for a time, Maria realized that her passion was not in that field, after all. Instead, she found success assisting lawyers as a paralegal in Mobile. Later, she moved to Chatom, where she enjoyed gardening, watching the wildlife in her yard, loving on her pets, and talking to any and everyone who would listen.

In addition to her parents, Maria was preceded in death by two of her brothers, Richard and Rory Sawyer, and a sister, Tonya Leon. She is survived by her siblings Ronnie (Jeannie) Sawyer, Rex Sawyer, Reina (John) Berger, and Raoul (Wendy) Martinez; her children, Roderyck "Shaw" (Shannon) Evans, John Henry "Hank" (Danielle) Richardson, Jacob "Abb" (Shelby) Richardson, and Jessica Raquel Richardson; her grandchildren, Wyatt Newburn, Eli Evans, Leighton Richardson, and Lillian Richardson; many nieces and nephews; and her two dogs, Mann and Gypsy.

Visitation will be Monday, February 7, 2022, at 6:00 p.m. with the Memorial Service starting at 7 p.m., at Lathan Funeral Home in Chatom, Alabama. Bro. John Brown will be officiating services.
