Mary Bohannon

Mary Alice Harper Bohannon, 79, of Jackson, died June 30, 2023. Mary Alice was born January 3, 1944 to Cecil and Mary Viola Harper. She graduated Jackson High School, Class of 1961 followed by earning her associate degree in accounting from Alabama Christian in 1963. Mary Alice enjoyed crossword puzzles and spending time at the ballpark watching and encouraging her nieces, nephews and other special children she was honored to love. She was also an avid fan of the University of Alabama football team, it was not uncommon to call her during a game and hear her shaker swooshing in the air. One of Mary Alice's deepest passions was the Racking Horse Breeders Association of America. Mary Alice was a founding member when the Association was founded in 1972 and served as an officer for many years. She held the distinct honor of having judged more world celebrations than any other judge in the history of the industry. In 2019 at the Racking Horse World Celebration Mary Alice Bohannon was inducted into the Racking Horse Hall of Fame, a well deserved honor.

Mary Alice is survived by her siblings, Becky Skipworth (Johnny), Cecil Harper (Darlene), Carolyn Crosby (Steve) and Cindy Hicks (Winky) as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, sister, Virgie Lee and Nephew, Ashley Skipworth.

Services will be held at Lathan Funeral Home in Jackson. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 5, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and Thursday, July 6, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. until the Funeral Service begins at 11:00 a.m. with Bro. Dave Delegal officiating. Interment will follow in Henley Cemetery in Fulton.

Active pallbearers will be Johnny Skipworth, Cecil Harper, Chad Harper, Steve Crosby, Steven Crosby and Nathan Lovelace.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Morris, Ricky Shackleford and Danny Musick.
