Fails
Jun 17, 1947 — Jun 10, 2026
Mary Evelyn "Evelyn" Cowan Fails, age 78, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2026, just days before her 79th birthday. She was born on June 17, 1947.
Evelyn was the oldest child in her family and proudly embraced that role throughout her life. Known affectionately as "the boss," she possessed a strong spirit, a caring heart, and a personality that kept everyone on their toes. Her family and friends knew they could always count on Evelyn's honesty, wisdom, and determination.
She enjoyed many simple pleasures in life. Evelyn loved crocheting and spent countless hours creating treasured handmade items for those she loved. She also had a beautiful singing voice and found great joy in music.
In her leisure time, Evelyn enjoyed watching television, especially her favorite soap operas and westerns. She rarely missed an episode and loved following the stories and characters that brought her entertainment over the years.
Above all, Evelyn cherished her family and the memories they created together. Her presence, laughter, strength, and love will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Willie Curtis Fails; parents, Clarence Raybon and Mary (Anderson) Cowan; brothers, Clarence Henry Cowan and Wendell Cowan; niece Phyllis Moore; and great-nephew Jacob Chappelle.
Evelyn is survived by her brothers, John C. Cowan and Tony Cowan; sister, Joann Baggett; and numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and dear friends.
Funeral services for Evelyn will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at Lathan Funeral Home, Jackson, at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Robert Younge officiating. A visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Witch Creek Baptist Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be John Baggett, Joseph Baggett, Charles Lawson, Brandon Baker, Christian Dungan, and Jason Williams.
Though she has departed this earthly life, Evelyn's memory will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who were blessed to know her.
