Mary Alice Powell, beloved mother, cherished sister, devoted grandmother, and dear friend was born on May 4, 1947 and she departed this life peacefully on February 24, 2026.
Mary Alice grew up as the only girl among six brothers, a dynamic that shaped her nurturing spirit and unwavering strength. Throughout her life, she found purpose and joy in doing for others, always embodying generosity and kindness. As a lab assistant at Alabama Power, she approached her work with the same commitment and care that she offered her family and friends.
A culinary enthusiast at heart, Mary Alice delighted in cooking full meals from scratch, infusing each dish with love and tradition. Her family will always remember the warmth of the kitchen and the delicious aromas that filled the air. Beyond her culinary skills, she possessed a remarkable green thumb; her yard was a testament to her talent for growing flowers and plants-turning even the humblest sprig or stick into a burst of vibrant life.
In her quiet moments, Mary Alice found contentment sitting on her porch with a cup of coffee, watching the birds and squirrels flit about, a smile gracing her face as she appreciated the small joys of life. A lover of animals, her beloved cats were a source of comfort and companionship, as was the time spent with her grandchildren, whom she adored deeply.
Mary Alice is survived by her beloved son, David Powell; dear brother, Ervin Brewer; special sister-in-law, Sharon Brewer; precious grandchildren, Nicole Powell, David Powell, Jr, and Olivia Williams; and a circle of family and friends who will carry her memory in their hearts.
Mary Alice was preceded in death by her parents, Ervin Sr & Hessie Bell Brewer; son, Brent Powell; and brothers, Fred Brewer, James Brewer, Henry Brewer, Randy Brewer, and Jimmy Brewer.
A graveside service will be held on February 28, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the Peniel Baptist Church Cemetery, where those who knew and loved her can come together to celebrate her life and legacy. Following the service, she will be laid to rest, concluding her earthly journey but ensuring that her spirit and enduring love will live on within all she touched.
Mary Alice Powell was a true gem-a reflection of kindness, joy, and an unwavering commitment to family. She will be profoundly missed, but her legacy of love and generosity will continue to inspire all who knew her.
