Mary Dykes Reaves, beloved mother and cherished community member, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2026, at the age of 85. Born on November 14, 1940, in Jackson, Mary lived a life devoted to family, knowledge, and the beauty of nature.
A longtime member of Jackson Church of Christ, Mary cultivated deep friendships and shared unwavering love and support with her church family. Mary dedicated much of her professional life to serving her community as an Assistant Librarian at the White Smith Memorial Library. Her passion for reading shaped her identity; she was a true lover of literature and instilled the same appreciation for books in anyone willing to spend time with her. Known for her nurturing spirit, Mary was the epitome of a homemaker, a role she embraced wholeheartedly, creating a warm and loving environment for her family and friends.
In her free time, Mary found joy in her garden, especially nurturing flowers that brought color and life to her home. She delighted in visiting and connecting with friends and loved ones, sharing stories and laughter that will be forever cherished.
Mary is survived by her devoted daughter, Kristi Reaves (Kim); her beloved son, Kevin Reaves; her dear sister, Martha Batley; as well as many dear friends and loved ones, who will continue to honor her legacy of kindness and love.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold Reaves; parents, Henry Sr. & Virginia Dykes; and brother, Henry Dykes Jr.
Funeral services will be held on June 5, 2026, at Lathan Funeral Home in Jackson. The visitation will take place from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM with Bro. Jason Gambol officiating. A graveside service will commence immediately following the service at Trinity Memorial Gardens, located at 1601 Walker Springs Road, Jackson.
Active pallbearers will be Gary Irby, Kenny Reeves, Bruce Todd, Ryan Harrison, Jason Gambol, and Tim Jones.
The Reaves family would like to express their appreciation for Woodland Village Nursing Home and Enhabit Hospice of Cullman who showed great care and compassion to Mary during her time with them.
Mary Virginia Reaves' spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love, community, and the joy of reading will continue to inspire those she leaves behind.
