Mattie Overton

Mattie Overton, 84, of Grove Hill passed away on September 30, 2025, in Mobile, Alabama. Mattie was born to Woodrow, Sr. and Gertrude (Stabler) Ikner on January 19, 1941.

Mattie found great comfort in her faith and enjoyed watching the Gospel presented on television. She was a devoted member of Jackson First Assembly of God and deeply loved her family.

Mattie is predeceased by her husband, Edward K. Overton; her parents, Woodrow, Sr. and Gertrude Ikner; brothers, Woodrow Ikner, Jr. and Johnny Ikner; and sisters, Inez Rowell and Pauline Cornelson.

She is survived by her son, Charles (Kimberly) Overton; grandchildren, Holly (Michael) Hayes, Chance (Jeremy Culver) Shaw, Kathy (Lars Briscoe) Shaw, and Ian (Maddie) Shaw; great-grandchildren, Cassidy Hayes, Alex Hayes, Allie Hayes, and Michael Briscoe; and her sisters, Mary Mason and Ann Ellis.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at 2:00 P.M. at Lathan Funeral Home in Jackson, Alabama, with Bro. Alex Hayes officiating.
