Funeral services for Maynard Overstreet will be held Friday, March 22, 2024 at Lathan Funeral Home, Jackson. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. with the funeral service beginning at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Benny Crawford officiating. Interment will follow in Perry's Chapel Community Cemetery.
Maynard Aaron Overstreet, Sr., age 90, died March 14, 2024. Maynard was born October 22, 1933 to Pickens Aaron Overstreet and Vera Mae Finney Overstreet. He was a member of Jones Chapel Methodist Protestant Church as well as being a member of Masonic Lodge #226 for over 50 years. He was also a founding member of Overstreet Hunting Club LLC. After working at CIBA for 25 years, Maynard owned and operated Overstreet Grocery for more than 40 years in the Gainestown community; a beloved location for locals to shop and socialize. Maynard loved the outdoors. He was an avid hunter who especially enjoyed tracking turkey. He was a builder having made repairs and renovations to his home as well as the homes of friends and loved ones, churches in his community, and other structures. He was an avid gardener, having kept a garden for many decades and having planted several rows just prior to his hospitalization. Maynard was an excellent cook and enjoyed sharing his favorite dishes with others including his family, friends and hunting club members. Maynard was a hard worker, a strong man both physically and mentally, a brilliant man who learned much from a classroom and even more from the impressive and iconic life he lived. He was always willing to share his knowledge with those who were willing to listen and put in the work needed to better themselves. Maynard was a legend to his family, friends and community and will forever be missed.
Maynard is survived by his loving wife Louise Helveston Overstreet; daughters, Sandra Overstreet Karr (Paul), Brenda Overstreet Lambard, and Meadria Overstreet McIntyre (Charles); sisters, Helen Overstreet Sanborn, Ella Mae Overstreet Jones and Inez Wagoner; 12 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandsons and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his son, Maynard Aaron Overstreet Jr.; sisters, Elsie Overstreet Jones and Iveline Overstreet; and brother, T.J. Overstreet.
Active pallbearers will be Joshua A. Andrews, J.D. Barnes, Dalton McIntyre, Dakota McIntyre, Davin Rooks and Evan Stewart.
Honorary pallbearers will be Louie Overstreet, Bonnie Ray Overstreet, Rose Mary Whitehead Colvin, Spencer Smith, Andrew Keith, Jamie Rone, John Henry James, Charlie Taylor, Michael Hunt, Beatty Pearson, Michael Chambers, Beau Favret, Ronnie McDonough, Steve Giblin, Dan Reimer, Roger Tart, Bill Dumas, Mathew McIntyre, Skip Stewart, Boyd Miller, Alice Jackson, Amos Jackson, Willie Lewis Jackson, and Bart McCrory.
