Mildred Irene Sheffield, born on July 23, 1947, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2026, at the age of 78. As the youngest of 12 siblings, Mildred brought warmth and joy to the lives of those around her.
A proud member of Eastwood Baptist Church in Monroeville, she cherished her time with the ladies of her Sunday School Class and was an active member of the Women's Missionary Union (WMU). Mildred dedicated nearly 50 years to her service at First Baptist Church of St. Stephens, where she found great fulfillment in her work with the Children's Ministry.
Mildred had a creative spirit, often expressing herself through heartfelt poetry which she loved sharing with her family and friends. She had a wonderful talent for decoration and enjoyed transforming her home for every holiday, with a special fondness for Christmas.
Mildred is survived by her loving daughter, Sandra Padgett (Tim); her dear grandchildren, Thomas Padgett (Kaley) and Sydney Welch (Collin); her beloved great grandchildren, Slade Padgett, Raylan Padgett, and T. R. Welch; as well as four siblings and numerous other relatives and friends.
She was greeted in heaven by her beloved husband, James T. Sheffield and seven of her dear siblings.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate her life during a visitation on May 13, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church of St. Stephens. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM with Dr. Richard Horner and Dr. Todd Plunkett officiating. Mildred will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband in the church cemetery following the service.
Pallbearers will be Mike Goldman, Gerald Deas, Madison Moseley, Cliff "Bubba" Williams, Johnny Moseley, and Buddy Price.

We will remember Mildred for her loving heart, creative spirit, and the countless lives she touched. She will be dearly missed.
