Nellie Stewart

Nellie Moorer Stewart, 98, of Frankville, passed away at her daughter's home in Tuscaloosa on November 16, 2018. She was born April 30, 1920 to Napolean and Cora Moorer. Nellie graduated Valedictorian of Leroy High School's class of 1939 and went on to obtain a degree in education from Livingston College (UWA). She married her husband of 34 years, George Leon Stewart on October 21, 1951. She taught school for 34 years in the Washington County school system and was loved by many of her former classmates and students, some of which remained in contact with her for the rest of her life. She was a lifelong member of Friendship Baptist Church and served in various positions including church secretary and treasurer.
Nellie loved her family and gathering with them to fellowship. She taught her daughter and grandchildren strong Christian values. She attended church regularly at Friendship Baptist Church all her life until she moved to Tuscaloosa where she attended Jennings Chapel UMC. She loved and was loved by the members of both churches.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son-in-law, John Paul Jones; as well all of her siblings except Marilyn Parker.
She is also survived her daughter, Linda Stewart Jones; grandchildren, Jonathan (Jami) Jones, Patrick Jones; great grandchildren, Joshua Drake Jones and Emery Claire Jones.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, November 19, 2018 at Friendship Baptist Church at 11:00 am with visitation one-hour prior. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Lathan Funeral Home directing
Pallbearers will be Jerril Jones, Wes Knight, Terry Parker, Alan Parker, Joe Anders, Scott Anders, Eric Anders and Gus Henson.
Honorary Pallbearers will be the members of Friendship Baptist Church and Jennings Chapel UMC.
