Nettie Hayes

Nettie Inez Hayes, 90, of Chatom, passed away July 8, 2017 at the Washington County Nursing Home. She was born April 6, 1927 to John Franklin and Edna Dees. A member of the Chatom Church of God, she had also been employed as a cafeteria worker with the Washington County Board of Education. She was an avid fan of the Alabama football team, and enjoyed numerous hobbies including watching hummingbirds, sewing, making jams and jellies, adult coloring books and cooking.


She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leon Dick Hayes and son, Johnny Lee "Shorty" Hayes.


She is survived by children, Inez (Robert) Younge, Jo Farrior (widow), Leon (Jan) Hayes, Margie (Wayne) Waite, Marie (Rayford) White, Jimmy Lee Hayes; 17 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and two great, great-grandchildren.


Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at Lathan Funeral Home in Chatom with the Revs. John and Naomi Brown officiating. Visitation will begin at 11:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Jones Beech Cemetery in Hobson with Lathan Funeral Home directing.


Pallbearers will be Marvin Lee Beech, Steve Beech, Andy Brown, Don Welborn, Larkin Jenkins and Tim Younge.


Honorary pallbeareres will be Tommy Hewett, Cecil Moss, William Hill, Marlin "Red" Parnell, G.T. Moss and Peter Thompson.
