Orinell Gates

Orinell Tucker Gates, 78, of Jackson, passed away Thursday, May 9, 2019 at Mobile Infirmary. She was born August 23, 1940 to Orie T. and Anglea Blanch Crowell Tucker in Lockhart. The family later moved to Chickasaw where she graduated from Vigor High School in 1958. After marriage, she moved to Pritchard, Saraland and finally to Jackson where she became active in numerous groups. She enjoyed all aspects of caring for her home and family, but she also spent a great deal of time in the outdoors and attended all kinds of festivals, especially those centered around flowers. She was also active in her home church, Mt. Gilead Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 47 years, William Jenkins "Dinky" Gates, a native of Dickinson, and son, Christopher Kevin Gates.

She is survived by her sons, Marcus Brent Gates, Derek Tillman Gates; brother, Rev. Graham Crowell (Peggy) Tucker; sister-in-law, Edwina G. Ezernack; numerous nieces, nephew, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Monday, May 13, 2019 at Lathan Funeral Home with the Revs. William Allison and Dennis Dunn officiating. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. and continue until the service. Interment will follow the service at Trinity Memorial Gardens in Jackson with Lathan Funeral Home directing.

Pallbearers will be Rayford Gates, Terry Hutto, Wayne Jones, Lem Finney, Bill Lane and Jerry Bradley.
