Phillip Downey

Phillip Rotch Downey, 54, of Grove Hill, passed away July 8, 2019 at Grove Hill Memorial Hospital. He was born August 31, 1964 to Bobby and Alice Downey in Grove Hill. He had been employed as an inspector with an engineering firm and has served as music minister at several churches in the area. A fan of Auburn University football, he had attained an Eagle Scout ranking and also enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and was an exceptionally good cook.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

He is survived by his father, Robert “Bobby” Downey; brothers, Keith (Ricka) Downey, Robin (Tracey) Downey; nieces, Morgan (Tyler) Elliott, Sidney Drew, Charis Dunlap and nephews, Drew Downey and Seth Downey.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at 3 p.m. at Lathan Funeral Home in Grove Hill with Dr. Randy Boone officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at Magnolia Lawn Cemetery with Lathan Funeral Home directing.

Pallbearers will be Drew Downey, Seth Downey, Don Wright, Stan Hutto, Bobby Keahey and Kendall Bush.
