Obituary

Rebecca McConnell Cotton, know to those who knew and loved her as Becky, passed away July 14, 2026. Becky was born August 28, 1949 in Camp Lee, VA to Robert H. McConnell, Sr. and Lorene Margret Gregory. She worked as an operator at BASF in McIntosh for 37 years before retiring in 2011.

In her free time, Becky could often be found spending time with her family, helping others, or fishing. She loved learning about the history and genealogy of her ancestors. She often sought out the cemeteries where they were buried and lovingly spent time cleaning and caring for their graves. Family was the center of her life, and if anyone was in need, she was always among the first to lend a helping hand.

Her greatest joy was her grandchildren. She loved them deeply and treasured every moment she spent with them. Whether it was spoiling them, making memories together, or simply enjoying their company, nothing brought a bigger smile to her face than being their grandmother. Becky was also rarely seen without a camera in her hand. She loved capturing life's special moments, preserving memories of the people she loved so they could be cherished for years to come.

Becky looked forward to family reunions, traveling near and far to reconnect with loved ones and meet relatives she had never known. Fishing was her favorite pastime, and she was happiest sitting on the bank of a creek or on a pier, patiently reeling in catfish and bream. If you knew Becky, you knew she was never afraid to tell you exactly what she thought. She was honest, fiercely loyal, compassionate, and devoted to those she loved. Becky will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Remaining to cherish Becky's memory are her son, Randall (Dawn) Woodyard; grandchildren, Mallory (Hunter) Howard, Dalton (Hannah) Woodyard, Chase & Peyton Woodyard, Makenzie (Alex) Fuller; great grandchildren, Amelia, Scarlett, and Nolan Howard, Edyn & Koda Woodyard, Lottie Woodyard, Colby Phillips & Colsen Fuller; brother, Billy (Nell) McConnell; sister, Sheila Anderson; and a host of cherished nieces and nephews.

Becky was preceded in death by her parents, Robert & Lorene; sister, Alice McConnell Parten; brother, Robert H McConnell, Jr.; and grandson, Colby Woodyard.

Services will be held to honor Becky's memory on Thursday, July 16, 2026 at Lathan Funeral Home, Jackson. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral service begins at 11:00 a.m. with Bro. Jimmy Butts officiating. Interment will follow in Trinity Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Doug Parten, Bill Piper, Andy Wiggins, Chris Wiggins, Alex Fuller, and Brad McKinley.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Hunter Howard and Charles Anderson.

Becky will be deeply missed, but her spirit will remain alive in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
