Robert Dodson Howard, 82, passed away on August 18, 2026, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 1, 1944, in Tibbie to parents Amon and Alma Boroughs Howard. Robert graduated Washington County High School, class of '62, shortly afterwards enlisted in the United States Army and later transferred to the Alabama National Guard where he had served 26 years and retired as Sgt. 1st Class.
He married Jonaleen, whom had preceded him in death and later married Sandra Jones Howard and had made his home in Tibbie. He achieved his 50 year pin in his Masonic Lodge, and retired from Olin Corporation. He loved to travel, spending time outdoors hunting and fishing. He was a founding Member of Howardtown Baptist church, he was a song leader and faithful lifetime member who will be missed by his church family. He enjoyed the fall and looked forward to Alabama Football. His family meant the world to him, he cherished all the time spent together.
Preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, two sisters, one grandchild, and one great-grandchild.
Survived by his loving wife of 30 years Sandra Howard, children Darryl Howard, Duane Howard, Ryan 'BoBo' Howard, Christine Wynn, and Michael Martin, Six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, five sisters and many extended family members and loving friends.
Pallbearers will be Jarrod Jones, Jonathan Jones, Jonathan Howard, Scott Howard, Nate Kever, and Andy Parnell. Honorary pallbearers will be Doots Howard, James Lathan, Mickey Davis, Larry Cooper, Buck Buchannon, Ray Williams, and Roger Sheffield.
Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 21, 2026, at Howardtown Baptist Church in Tibbie with a visitation one hour prior to services. Bro. Larry Darden and Bro. Jamie Lay are officiating with Lathan Funeral Home directing. Burial to follow at the church cemetery.
