Sheila Faye Roberts Cowan, 63, of Cambell, passed away on May 17, 2026, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 19, 1962, in Panama City, Florida at Saint Andrews Hospital, to the late Rev. James Earl Roberts Sr. and Glenda Faye Welch Roberts.
Sheila was a resident of Grand Bay, AL, when she started school. She attended school in Mobile County before moving to Coffeeville, AL in 1972 and attended school there. Sheila was a member of Irvington Assembly of God up until moving to Coffeeville, AL, where her father pastored Victory Lighthouse Church, where she spent a lot of time teaching herself to play the piano and sing. Sheila loved to sing and play and had a voice that many loved to hear and would request for her to sing. The family moved to Jackson, AL in 1978. Sheila married Ralph Wendell Cowan in April of 1980. They had two children together, a son and daughter and resided in Mobile County where Sheila worked in the restaurant industry as a manager for many years leading up to her co-owning a restaurant. Sheila loved to cook and garden. She raised many vegetables bringing food from garden to table for her family. She loved to cook and feed others and see the smiles on their faces when they bragged about her cooking. Sheila and her husband of 32 years separated in 2011, and Sheila went to live with her mom where she spent 11 years before becoming ill and became a resident of nursing facilities. Sheila became terminally ill in March of 2026 where she was placed on hospice and went to live with her daughter, Heather, to be cared for and surrounded by the love of family and friends until transitioning to her Heavenly home.
Sheila is survived by her mother, Glenda Faye Welch Roberts, son, Daniel Lee Cowan, daughter, Heather Denise Cowan Damron (Stoney), siblings, Pamela Renee Savage (Wayne), James Earl Roberts Jr., Rebecca Lynn Roberts, four grandchildren Danyel Kathleen Cowan Burleigh (Brandon), Declan Lee Cowan, Breanna Nicole Chappelle Lawson (Charles), and Monica Alexis Chappelle, great-grandson Silas James Burleigh, her best friend, yet more like a sister whom she dearly loves and is sad to leave behind, Lora Motes Newton Odom.
She is preceded in death by her father, James Earl Roberts, Sr., grandmother, Nettie Margaree Ott Roberts, grandfather, Gordon Lay Roberts, and grandmother, Gladys Welch; grandson, Jacob Emmanuel Chappelle, sister-in-law, Stacy Lynn Kimbrell Roberts, uncle, Bobby Glenn Roberts, nephew, Allen Wayne Savage, Jr. great-nephew, Jon Owen McCallum, and best friends Cindy Dungan, Christine Solorzano, and Barbara Chestang.
Pallbearers will be Cecil Roberts, Christian Dungan, Charles Lawson, Brandon Baker, Wayne Savage, Mike Mefford, and Anthony Roberts.
Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 22, 2026, at Lathan Funeral Home in Jackson with a visitation one hour prior to services. Interment will be at Trinity Memorial Gardens in Jackson. Bro. Brent Fuller will be officiating with Lathan Funeral Home directing.
