Sol Stewart

December 8, 1934 — April 18, 2021

Solomon Adams "Sol" Stewart passed away April 18, 2021 at Mobile Infirmary. He was born in Mobile, Alabama on December 8, 1934 to Edith Adams Stewart and John Carley Stewart. Sol grew up in Jackson, Alabama and attended high school in Jackson. He then attended Tulane University. He is predeceased by his parents and brother, John Calvin Stewart. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Anne Horne Stewart.
Sol and Anne owned and operated the Mobile Home Mart in Jackson for thirty years, where he sold and rented mobile homes, selling more than 3000 in the Jackson area. Prior to this, he worked for Midland Guardian Insurance, selling in a wide area of the Gulf Coast.
They were also avid drag racing enthusiasts. He owned the Sunset Dragway in Panama City from 1962 to 1964. Sol built the car that Anne raced (named The Teacher's Pet) as well as driving many cars himself. It is said, however, that Anne holds more trophies than he does. They enjoyed this sport together all during the 1960s and 70s and were the hosts for the Old Drag Racers Club Reunion for twenty years. He also made many fishing trips to Old Mexico.
Sol Stewart was knowledgeable on a wide variety of issues, both historical and current events. He also held very strong opinions on these subjects and was very vocal in expressing his opinions in well-written letters to the editors of area newspapers and in person to governmental officials. He will be greatly missed.
